Flash a signed UEFI image on the X870

Back up, flash, and verify a signed pre-boot image — plus how to recover if it goes wrong.

7 min read

Before you flash

Back up the current image first. The onboard header exposes the flash chip to a programmer — clip on, dump the contents twice, and keep both dumps. A power loss mid-flash without a backup means a long recovery.

Confirm the image signature matches the board revision printed on the PCB. Flashing the wrong revision is the most common failure we see.

Flash and verify

Write the image, then read it back and compare the checksums — don't trust the programmer's progress bar. On first boot, enter setup and confirm the reported version string matches the image you wrote.

Recovery

If the board won't POST, re-clip the programmer and restore your backup dump. If you skipped the backup step, contact us — we keep signed recovery images for every revision we ship.
